More Than Just a "Low Bar": Shifting Your Gears Toward Jesus

We’ve all seen it on the road—a rider with a "Faith" sticker on their helmet or a "God is my Co-Pilot" patch on their vest. It’s a common sentiment, and in our world today, saying you "believe in God" is pretty safe. It doesn't ruffle many feathers. But as we dig into the Word, we have to ask ourselves: Is a general belief in God enough to get us through the ride?

The "Generic" Trap

In the Book of James, James 2:19 says, "You believe there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble." Think about that for a second. If our faith is just a "generic" acknowledgement that a Creator exists, we’re clearing a pretty low bar. Even hell is full of people who believe God exists. That kind of faith doesn't erase the struggles, it doesn't remove the obstacles on the highway of life, and it certainly doesn't bring salvation.

Just like a bike won't move if it's stuck in neutral, our spiritual lives won't move until we shift into a specific, focused faith. The New Testament doesn’t just tell us to have faith in "the Divine." It tells us to have faith in Jesus Christ.

• It’s Justifying: Galatians 2:16 tells us we aren't made right by following the "rules of the road" (the law), but by faith in Jesus.
• It’s Personal: It’s about believing in the Son of God who loved you and gave Himself for you.
• It’s Bold: People don’t mind if you talk about "God," but things get stirred up when you mention the Name of Jesus.

The Power is in the Name

There’s a reason why the name of Jesus makes people uncomfortable—it’s where the power is. We aren't just a social club that likes motorcycles; we are a ministry built on the specific work of Christ—His death, His resurrection, and His authority. Generic faith might get you a nod of approval from the world, but faith in Jesus is what justifies you, redeems you, and truly sets you free.

The Kickstand Challenge

This week, as you’re out on two wheels, don't just "believe in God." Lean into the name of Jesus. Talk to Him. Confess Him as Lord. Don't just play it safe by mentioning your "spirituality"—speak the Name that actually changes lives.
